World History II

Today we used a Zoom Activity and Saul Steinberg's A View of the World From 9th Avenue to learn about the importance of perspective. Steinberg's famous New Yorker cover pokes fun at the mental geography of people who live in Manhattan and has been parodied and replicated by many artists over the years.  In 2008,  The New Yorker published this cover that referenced comments Governor Palin had made in an interview.

For Homework I would like you to create your own A View of the World.  In order to receive full credit for your work you must include the following:

Your View of the World  can either be on blank printer paper or construction paper. You do not have to draw your images you can use pictures from magazines or from online.

1. Important places: Think about some important locations that you have been to or that are related to your life. In the past my students have included some of the following: cities, countries, states, places where your parents work, places that you have visited, schools, favorite restaurants.

2. Geographic features: Lakes, rivers, oceans, mountains, islands.

3. Landmarks: What are some important buildings in your life.

Be sure to label your images so that they can be identified.

On Tuesday, I can show the class an example of a finished project.

Enjoy the weekend.
